Or at least will be one when he grows up. My friend and I were recently hanging out on the patio, while he was playing nearby.

I was discussing some of my blogs and the best martini recipes to showcase. When Jacob ran up to us and yelled, "Do you like pork flavored Martini's"? He could not contain his laughter especially when we were cracking up as well.

A little time passed and we had moved on to talking about other subjects when he ran over again. Do you like pork flavored Martini's? It wasn't as funny this time, but you can't blame the kid for finding something that works and sticking with it.

I'm still a fan of lemondrops and the classic dirty martini. But, I guess, if people will purchase baconaisse than a pork martini may not be too far off.

I Love Lemon Drop Martinis

I like to experiment with different Martini Recipes. But the main characteristic of the Gibson is that it is Garnished with an onion instead of the traditional olive.

Classic Gibson Martini Recipe

6 parts gin

1 part dry vermouth

Stir with with ice to chill. Shaking may bruise the gin. Strain into Martini Glass. Garnish with pickled onion.

Just like the standard Martini, Vodka can be substituted for Gin in the Gibson recipe.

Charles Gibson is credited with the invention of the Gibson. But there are several different versions of why or how.

One version is that he was at a bar and asked the bartender to improve on the traditional Martini recipe. So the bartender substituted and onion for an olive and named it after the patron.

Another story is that Gibson was a teetotaller and would have the bartender pour him chilled water into a cocktail glass and he would use the onion garnish so he wouldn't accidentally drink the Gin or Vodka Cocktail.

Another version is that he used the chilled water cocktail for 3 Martini business lunches, so that when is clients became inebriated he was still in control.

What Is A Gimlet?

The Gimlet is not a Martini per se. But more of a classic cocktail. But I thought it was worth talking about because it is sometimes confused with the Gibson Martini. And it is very similar to a Martini becaues it is just really a chilled glass of Gin or Vodka and lime juice. Which is very similar to the simplicity of the Classic Martini.

How To Make A Gimlet

1/2 part gin

1/2 part Rose's Lime Juice

Serve and stir in same glass

Or

1/4 Lime Juice

3/4 Dry Gin

Shake well and strain into medium glass, fill up with soda water.

Or

2 oz Gin or Vodka

1/4 to 1/2 oz Simple Syrup

1/2 oz Lime Juice

Stir and garnish with lime.

What's your favorite? As an adult most of us love Martinis. The marriage of the two seems like a natural hit. Here is one variation of the recipe:

Jolly Rancher Martini

1 Ounce Raspberry Vodka

1/2 Ounce Sour Apple Liquer

1/2 Ounce Sour Raspberry Liquer

1/2 Ounce Banana Liquer

3 Ounces Cranberry Juice

Pour into Shaker with ice. Shake and pour into chilled Martini Glass. Garnish with lemon.

There are also many variations of the Jolly Rancher Martini. For instance you can substiture different ingredients and liquers to create an Apple Jolly Rancher flavor, or my favorite Watermellon.

Don't be afraid to experiment, and if you have a recipe let me know and I'll publish it.
